“Run in places you love with people you like. Enjoying your surroundings and training partners will strengthen your commitment to running and bring out the best in you.”
– Deena Kastor
This is one of my all time favorite running quotes. This couldn’t be more true. This year has been such a radical change in running for me. If you had told me a few years ago that I would be running with a group of people I would not have believed you. I was always terrified to run with other people because I worried I was too slow. After much nagging from my friend LP, as well as my roommate, I finally broke down and ran with the group. The Mustache Running Club is a group that was formed in 2011 by a small handful of people in the NWA area. Brian B., owns an awesome store by the name “The Mustache” that has all sorts of cool knick knacks and is our leader of sorts.
The mom of our running group is Megan. She’s such a huge inspiration to me. She’s an extremely dedicated runner and ran Boston this past year. We were so proud of her! She’s mom to an adorable little girl as well as the “mom” of our group. Megan keeps us all in shape and schedules everything. She pushes everyone to do their best. And if she can run a marathon 7-8 months pregnant, there’s really no excuse to not run.
This year I ran more than I have ever run in my life, and I know I improved and became a stronger runner thanks to my running group. These people are all incredible, and I am so, so grateful to have each and every one of them in my life.
This year you can count on me sharing race recaps as well as all the other silly events I’ll be doing with my friends. Do you run with a group of people? Do you like running alone? I’d love to hear your running stories!
